8 QUESTIONS with MARTIN NIEVERA
INSPIRED by Tito Boy Abunda’s ‘Fast Talk’ segment in TWBA – we give you 8 QUESTIONS.
Madalian at mabilisang tanungan. Presence of mind lang ang kailangan.
Walong tanong para sapat lang. Hindi konti, hindi rin karamihan.
And because 8 is my favorite number (‘yun ang totoong dahilan, hehe!).
Our star of the day is none other than the Concert King, Mr. MARTIN NIEVERA, who is celebrating his birthday today, February 5. Happy 56th birthday, Martin!!!
35 years in the business and he shows no signs of slowing down. He’s still as busy as ever and no one has replaced him as the undisputed Concert King of the Philippines.
This February 10, Martin has a pre-Valentine concert together with Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid and Erik Santos called #paMORE at the MOA Arena.
Now here it is: 8 QUESTIONS with one of the wittiest and most articulate showbiz people we know, MARTIN NIEVERA…
1. If you can sing just one song for the rest of your life, what will it be and why?
You Are My Song. It’s my song to the people, the people who put me in the position that I’m in today. Whatever that is, that’s my song to them forever.
2. If you can have a duet with someone famous, living or dead, who will you choose and why?
Barbra Streisand has always been my dream duet. Celine Dion, the next. Regine Velasquez, Lani Misalucha. The people who can really teach me more about singing, that’s who I wanna sing with.
Barbra is #1 because she’s impossible to get. You ask anyone all over the world, she’s the most impossible person to sing a duet with. She’s unavailable, not in the mood, doesn’t have the time for you, plus I’m a huge fan.
3. If you can have your dream concert anywhere in the world, where would you do it and why?
I think my dream concert would be in Central Park in New York City, for free. Hopefully all the Filipinos all over the East Coast and America will be there. And it will be a show for a cause. No pay. My thanksgiving, my way of saying thank you for putting me up on the stage. Let’s make a difference, make money for a certain cause, curing of a disease, a calamity in the Philippines, that would be my dream concert.
Central Park because it’s huge and everyone who’s anyone has done a show there and they come in the millions to watch them. So, if I still have the millions to watch me, that’s where we should be.
4. What’s the best thing about being Martin Nievera?
The best thing about being Martin Nivera is people actually have the time and the willingness to ask me questions. People ask me my advice, people ask me my experience. People actually give a damn about what I say. That’s the best thing about being Martin Nievera.
5. A good night of music or a good night of sex?
Sexual music. Sex with music. That’s the best. I don’t think I could be as romantic as I have been and could still be with the right music. Kung walang music, no sex.
6. If you can give your girlfriend the best Valentine date ever, what’s it gonna be?
My undivided attention. No work, no phone, nothing. Just she and me. Can I do it? I don’t know. Can you? Ha! Ha! Ha!
Because usually, I share everything with my girlfriend. She has to share my day, she has to share my vacation. We make a vacation out of a work. Let’s say I go to the States or around the world to work, that’s my vacation to her. I’m not rich enough to just go on vacation, it has to be work. So, I think the best I could give her, this girl that I’m seeing now, is my undivided time, where it’s just she and I, no phone, no family, no work, nothing.
7. What’s your ultimate fantasy?
In where? I mean, I have many fantasies. I fantasize about singing with the Phiharmonic Orchestra, I have fantasized about being with two or three women. I’ve fantasized about everything under the sun that you can think of, you have to be a little bit more specific.
My fantasy is to be able to have a talk show, seen all over the world. And doing what I used to do before, but interviewing the world leaders. The big, big stars all over the world, not just the Philippines. That would be my ultimate fantasy.
8. If your life will be turned into a musical, what will it be like and what title will you give it?
Tales of A Madman. The music would be from ballad to rock ballad, na biglang all of a sudden, out of nowhere to a fantasy.
And it would be a musical with the lyrics that will touch and move people. If I had a musical, it would be as known and as popular and as classical as let’s say Sound of Music or West Side Story, Phantom of the Opera. Wow, that will be it.
